Brain Fog Is Not Normal Aging.
Many people notice they are forgetting names, losing focus, searching for words, or having difficulty concentrating. They often assume, “I’m just getting older.”
While aging can influence cognitive function, brain fog is often a sign that something deeper deserves attention:
• blood sugar imbalance and insulin resistance
• chronic inflammation affecting the brain
• poor sleep and inadequate brain recovery
• chronic stress and elevated cortisol
• thyroid dysfunction
• hormonal changes affecting brain chemistry
• vitamin B12, B1, B6, folate, magnesium, omega-3, vitamin D, iron, choline, or CoQ10 deficiencies
• gut microbiome imbalance and the gut-brain connection
• reduced circulation and oxygen delivery
• environmental toxins, mold exposure, or heavy metals in susceptible individuals
What I often evaluate:
• blood sugar balance (glucose, insulin, HbA1c)
• vitamin B12, folate, vitamin D, magnesium, iron, and other key nutrients
• thyroid function and hormone balance
• inflammation and oxidative stress
• gut health and nutrient absorption
• advanced testing, such as Metabolomics (Organic Acids), GI-MAP, or DUTCH, when clinically appropriate
The brain does not simply age. It responds to its internal environment. Healthy brain function depends on healthy body function.
When patients tell me, “My memory isn’t what it used to be,” I ask: “What is interfering with the brain’s ability to function clearly?”
Do you recognize yourself?
• difficulty finding words
• forgetting names or appointments
• trouble concentrating or multitasking
• mental fatigue later in the day
• feeling less sharp than you used to be
• relying on caffeine to stay focused
Does this sound like you? Let’s find out…
My approach may include, depending on the individual’s needs:
• optimizing sleep, blood sugar, brain circulation, and the gut-brain connection
• correcting nutrient deficiencies and reducing neuroinflammation
• targeted nutritional support may include vitamins B1, B6, B12, folate, omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, phosphatidylserine, citicoline, acetyl-L-carnitine, CoQ10, medicinal mushrooms, and other evidence-informed supplements based on the individual’s clinical presentation and laboratory findings.
Medicine begins with attentive listening, refined clinical observation, and comprehensive testing chosen for the individual — not the routine.
Let’s solve the puzzle.
