Pediatric Health
Introduction
Childhood is a time for growth and development of bones, teeth, muscles and blood. Nutrition during this period of the life cycle significantly determines teenage and adult eating patterns and risks for nutritional disease. Children are at a greater risk for deficiency when they have a poor appetite for a long period, eat a limited number of foods, dilute their diet with nutrient-poor foods and/or have food sensitivities or allergies that limit their diet.
Classical food allergies often develop during childhood and are more likely to occur as a result of a family history of allergies and sensitivities. Allergic responses might include respiratory or gastrointestinal symptoms, skin reactions, fatigue, lethargy, and behavioral changes.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) as well as Autism Spectrum Disorders can be managed through nutritional changes in both children and adults. Many children are sensitive to processed foods with artificial colors and flavorings as well as other food sensitivities. EB Nutrition specializes in elimination diets while helping adolescents maintain their vitamin and nutrient needs. Food allergy testing can assist in determining specific food sensitivities. Behavior modifications for hypersensitive children as well as gluten- and casein-free diets can also be accomplished through nutrition counseling (online or in person).
For toddlers and preschool aged children, family eating patterns have the greatest influence on the child’s food choices and eating habits. Food and exercise attitudes of parents strongly predict the child’s health and nutritional risks; parents are responsible for offering and providing nutritious food choices. Unfortunately, some children receive almost 50% of their calories from sugar and saturated fats. Therefore, parent and family nutrition counseling can help improve the eating habits and nutritional state of a child.
EB Nutrition also specializes in Nutrition Counseling related to the following diseases and conditions:
Autism
Food sensitivities and allergies
Underweight
Obesity and overweight

Obsessive compulsive disorder

Natural Treatment
A complete assessment of nutritional status includes the collection of anthropometric data including height, weight, weight for length, and body mass index (BMI). Dietary intervention at the parental and child level can help change dietary habits. A nutritional evaluation includes a review of the child’s typical eating patterns (food recall analysis) and family history. Nutritional guidelines and meal plans are established based upon the medical needs of the child while being mindful of the parents’ lifestyle. We provide nutrition education to both the parent and child to increase effectiveness and understanding.
Weight management is essential for optimal pediatric health and prevention of adult onset health conditions. Whether the goal is weight loss, weight and muscle gains, establishing healthy activity patterns, or sport specific training, you will fulfill your child’s fitness needs through obtaining a customized fitness program to compliment their nutritional plan.
